This species, commonly known as the bold-feathered grass moth, has the scientific name Herpetogramma pertextalis Lederer, 1863.

As adults, bold-feathered grass moths have a wingspan of approximately 33 millimeters. When at rest, they hold their wings open, which exposes both their forewings and hindwings. All four of their wings are whitish-tan and iridescent, marked with a series of jagged lines. A dark brown line runs along the lowermost margin of all four wings.

This species is native to North America. It is most commonly found in open grassy habitats, including fields, lawns, and pastures.

The larvae of Herpetogramma pertextalis feed on the leaves of Clethra alnifolia.
