About Herminia tarsipennalis Treitschke, 1835
Technical description and variation: The forewings of Herminia tarsipennalis measure 13–16 millimetres, or 0.51–0.63 inches, in length. Compared to Polypogon lunalis Scopoli, 1763, this species has narrower, greyer forewings with less purple tint, and may sometimes show a yellowish flush. Its inner and outer lines are positioned closer to one another. The subterminal line is simple and brown, with no shading before it, and is slightly concave facing outwards. The cell lunule is less distinct. Hindwings are a paler shade of grey, with a dark subterminal marking that has a strong white edge along its outer side. The aberration ab. bidentalis Hein. is paler grey, with a faint yellowish or rufous flush, and the subterminal line of the hindwing is barely angled. The larva is dull grey, with a greyish black dorsal line. Its tubercles are black and ringed with yellowish green. Spiracles are black, and the head is black brown.
