About Hemigenia purpurea R.Br.
Hemigenia purpurea, commonly known as narrow-leaved hemigenia, is a small shrub native to the Sydney and Nowra districts of eastern Australia. It is most often found in poor heathland soils in areas with relatively high rainfall, growing both near the coast and in the Blue Mountains. This species grows up to 2 metres tall. Its leaves are arranged in whorls of three; they are hairless, narrow, 1 to 1.6 centimetres long, and 1 millimetre wide. Leaves are wedge-shaped, with an acute angle at the base and a narrow, pointed tip. The leaf stem is 2 to 4 millimetres long. The flowers are blue or violet, and they mostly bloom from August to April. Hemigenia purpurea resembles certain species of the Prostanthera genus, but can be distinguished from them by its thin leaves.
