About Hemarthria altissima (Poir.) Stapf & C.E.Hubb.
Hemarthria altissima has a number of common names, including limpo grass, limpograss, halt grass, Batavian quick grass, swamp couch grass, red swamp grass, and red vleigrass. It is a flowering plant species belonging to the jointgrass genus Hemarthria, which is in the grass family Poaceae. It is native to the tropics and subtropics of the Old World, specifically found in Africa, Southern Europe, the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, eastern China, and Borneo. It has been widely introduced as a forage crop to the New World, ranging from Texas and Florida in the United States south to northern Argentina. Beyond being a valued forage for livestock, it also produces good, fragrant silage. Several cultivars of this species are commercially available.
