This species, Hemaris fuciformis Linnaeus, 1758, has a wingspan ranging from 38 to 48 millimetres (1.5 to 1.9 inches). Adults of this moth fly from April to September, with the flight period varying by location. The figures provided show the species' life stages: 3 and 3a show larvae after their last moult, 3b shows a larva just before pupation, and 3c shows a pupa.
