About Hellmuthia membranacea (Thunb.) R.W.Haines & Lye
Hellmuthia is a monotypic genus of flowering plants in the Cyperaceae family, meaning it contains only one species: Hellmuthia membranacea. This species is native to the Cape Provinces of the South African Republic. The genus name Hellmuthia honors Hellmuth Steudel (1816–1886), a German doctor based in Esslingen, who was the son of Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel, a German physician and grass expert. The Latin specific epithet membranaceus means membranous. Hellmuthia membranacea was first described and published in 1976 in Bot. Not. Volume 129, on page 66.
