About Heliothela wulfeniana Scopoli, 1763

Heliothela wulfeniana Scopoli, 1763 is a moth species with a wingspan of 16–19 mm. Individuals of this species have brownish thoraxes and abdomens, and whitish legs. The upperside of their forewings is dark brownish black, marked with small metallic lead-gray dots. Their paler brown hindwings each bear a conspicuous white spot. The outer margins of both pairs of wings are fringed with gray-bluish scales. This species is distributed across most of Europe, with the exception of Ireland, Great Britain, Norway, and Portugal. Its range stretches from France and Spain in the west, through Central Europe and the Mediterranean, to the European part of Russia. Outside of Europe, it can also be found in the Caucasus, the Altai, Turkey, and Central Asia. These moths live in xerophilic sandy environments that have sparse vegetation.
