About Heliopsis parvifolia A.Gray

Heliopsis parvifolia A.Gray is a perennial herb that can reach up to 80 cm (31 inches) tall, and spreads using underground rhizomes. Each stem of the plant typically produces between 1 and 5 flower heads. Every flower head holds 6 to 19 bright yellow ray florets, which surround 40 or more yellowish-brown disc florets. The fruit produced by this species is an achene that measures approximately 5 mm (0.20 inches) in length. This species is native to northern Mexico, where it occurs from Baja California east to Tamaulipas, and extends south as far as Aguascalientes. It is also found in the southwestern United States, specifically in southern Arizona, southern New Mexico, and western Texas. It grows in open rocky mountain slopes and canyons at elevations ranging from 1200 to 2500 meters.
