About Heliopsis gracilis Nutt.

Heliopsis gracilis Nutt. is a North American flowering plant species in the Asteraceae family. Its common names are coastal plain oxeye, coastal plain sunflower-everlasting, smooth oxeye, and pinewoods oxeye. It is native to the southeastern and south-central United States, ranging from eastern Texas to South Carolina. This species is a perennial herb that grows up to 80 cm (31 inches) tall, and spreads via underground rhizomes. Each stem of the plant typically produces between 1 and 5 flower heads. Each flower head holds 6 to 19 bright yellow ray florets, which surround 40 or more yellowish-brown disc florets. The fruit it produces is an achene that measures approximately 5 mm in length.
