About Heliophorus epicles (Godart, 1823)

Heliophorus epicles, commonly called the purple sapphire, is a species of lycaenid (also known as blue butterfly) that is found in Asia. This species was first formally described by Jean Baptiste Godart in 1823. Within India, this butterfly can only be found in the Himalayas, at elevations between 2000–7000 ft, which equals 600–2100 m. Outside of this limited Indian range, the species occurs from Kumaon in the Himalayas to southern Myanmar. It mainly lives in dense forest regions.
