Helictochloa pratensis (L.) Romero Zarco, commonly called meadow oat-grass, is a species of perennial flowering plant in the Poaceae grass family. It grows in temperate regions of Europe and Asia. Its culms are erect, and measure 30 to 85 centimeters in length; most of its leaves grow from the base of the plant. It only grows on shallow, calcareous soils, such as those that form over chalk and limestone substrates.
