About Helichrysum arenarium (L.) Moench

Helichrysum arenarium (L.) Moench is a perennial plant that grows an average of 0.3 meters tall. Its leaves are flat and wooly on both sides; lower leaves have an elliptical shape, while upper leaves are linear. Flower heads are arranged in a loose structure intermediate between an umbel and a panicle, and hold bright golden yellow florets 3 to 4 mm wide. This species grows on sandy grasslands and heathland, occurring from Eastern France to Sweden, and in the mountains of Uzbekistan. It is also widespread along the Dalmatian coast in Croatia, where local people regularly harvest and sell it through the summer. In this region’s Mediterranean climate, collection can occur as late as September and October.
