About Helianthus resinosus Small

Helianthus resinosus Small is a North American sunflower species, commonly called resindot sunflower. It is native to the southeastern United States, occurring from Mississippi to North Carolina. This species grows in open swamps, meadows, and alongside roadsides. It is a perennial herb that reaches up to 300 cm (10 feet) in height, and spreads via underground rhizomes. Its leaves grow up to 20 cm (8 inches) long, and have visible resin glands embedded and dotted across their surface. A single plant typically produces 1 to 5 flower heads; each head holds 10 to 20 yellow ray florets, which surround 90 or more yellow disc florets.
