About Helianthus atrorubens L.

Helianthus atrorubens, commonly called the purpledisc sunflower, is a North American sunflower species. It is native to the southeastern United States, where it occurs in all coastal states ranging from Louisiana to Virginia, as well as the inland states of Kentucky and Tennessee. This species is a perennial herb that can grow up to 200 cm (80 inches) tall. Most of its leaves grow close to the base of the stem. A single plant can produce 1 to 15 flower heads; each flower head holds 10 to 15 yellow ray florets, which surround 75 or more red or purple disc florets.
