About Helianthella quinquenervis (Hook.) A.Gray
Helianthella quinquenervis, common name fivenerve helianthella, is a North American plant species belonging to the family Asteraceae. It grows in mountain regions of the western United States and northern Mexico. Its range includes the Rocky Mountains, the Black Hills, the mountain ranges of the Great Basin, and the northern Sierra Madre, stretching from Montana, Oregon, and South Dakota south to western Chihuahua and Coahuila. Helianthella quinquenervis is a herbaceous plant that can reach up to 150 cm (4.9 ft) in height. Its leaves are larger than the leaves of most of its related species, growing up to 50 cm (20 in) long. Each leaf has 3 or 5 prominent veins that run along its entire length. The plant typically produces only one yellow flower head per stem, and the head is nodding, or hanging. Each flower head holds 8 to 21 bright yellow ray flowers, which surround numerous yellow disc flowers.
