About Hedeoma reverchonii (A.Gray) A.Gray

Hedeoma reverchonii (A.Gray) A.Gray, commonly known as Reverchon's false pennyroyal, is a species of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae. It is native to the south central United States, where it occurs mainly in Texas, with small populations extending into Arkansas and Oklahoma. Its natural habitat is open, calcareous rock outcrops. This species is a robust perennial with a woody base. It produces white or lavender flowers during the summer. When crushed, the plant releases an odor similar to camphor or lemon. This characteristic distinguishes it from the closely similar Hedeoma drummondii, which is a smaller plant that has a peppermint aroma.
