About Hectorella caespitosa Hook.fil.
Hectorella is a genus of flowering plants in the family Montiaceae. This genus is monotypic, meaning it contains only one species: Hectorella caespitosa Hook.fil. The species is native to New Zealand. The genus name Hectorella honors James Hector (1834โ1907), a Scottish-New Zealand geologist, naturalist, and surgeon. The Latin specific epithet caespitosa refers to the term caespitose, which means tufted or turf-like, and derives from the word caespes, also compared to caespititius. Hectorella caespitosa was first described and published in 1864, in Handbook of the New Zealand Flora, Volume 1, on page 27.
