Hechtia montana Brandegee is a plant species belonging to the genus Hechtia. This species is endemic to Mexico, and is specifically native to the Mexican states of Sonora and Sinaloa. It typically grows in dry, rocky environments. Its Latin specific epithet montana refers to mountains or originating from mountains. The species serves as a traditional food source in Sonora, Mexico. The Guarijío people call it hichiconi, roast its rosettes, and eat the prepared rosettes in a manner similar to artichokes. The Tarahumara people name the species chikani, and are recorded to eat its leaves raw year-round.
