About Havardia albicans (Kunth) Britton & Rose

Havardia albicans (Kunth) Britton & Rose is a perennial tree in the Fabaceae family, growing up to 5 meters tall. It is native to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America, particularly in regions around the Yucatan Peninsula. Its common names are chucum and cuisache. It has a reputation for being psychoactive. Its sap can be boiled and added to plaster to produce waterproof stucco, a property that may explain the longevity of traditional Mayan plaster. The recognized junior synonyms for this species are: Acacia albicans Kunth, Albizia lundellii Standl., Albizia rubiginosa Standl., Feuilleea albicans (Kunth) Kuntze, Pithecellobium albicans (Kunth) Benth., and Pithecolobium albicans (Kunth) Benth., a spelling lapse.
