About Harrisia tetracantha (Labour.) D.R.Hunt

Harrisia tetracantha grows as a shrub to tree-like plant, typically branching above ground and growing up to 3 meters tall. Its blue-green to gray-green shoots can reach up to 6 centimeters in diameter, and feature eight rounded, tuberous ribs. This cactus has a single, strong central spine that is initially brownish before turning white to ash-gray. It also has four to seven white marginal spines that have brown tips. Its flowers grow to 18 to 22 centimeters long. Harrisia tetracantha is widely distributed in the Bolivian departments of Cochabamba, Chuquisaca, Potosi, Santa Cruz and Tarija, where it grows in dry scrub forest at elevations between 1200 and 2600 meters.
