About Harrisia divaricata (Lam.) Backeb.

Harrisia divaricata (Lam.) Backeb. grows as a shrub reaching up to 1 meter in height. It produces upright, slender shoots that branch richly. This cactus has nine blunt ribs. It bears four brown central spines that measure 2 to 2.5 centimeters long, and eight to ten white marginal spines. Its flowers are large, and the globose, spherical fruits are yellow. The seeds range in size from 1.4–1.65 mm by 2.05–2.6 mm. Harrisia divaricata is widespread on Hispaniola, where it grows in scrublands and scrub forest at elevations between 5 and 400 meters.
