Harpalus chalcentus Bates, 1873 is a species that measures between 11.2 and 14.4 millimeters, equal to 0.44 to 0.57 inches, in total body length. Individuals are shiny black overall, with a metallic greenish tint on the head and prothorax. The pronotum and posterior body are reddish in color. The femora, labrum, mandibles, tibiae, and ventral side of the body are black, while the pedipalps, antennae, and tarsi are brownish-red. This species has fully developed wings.
