About Haplocarpha rueppelii (Sch.Bip.) Beauverd

Haplocarpha rueppelii is a creeping perennial plant that can grow into dense mats. In Kenya, this species can be found at locations including Mount Elgon, Mau Forest, and Mount Kenya. In Tanzania, it occurs in the Kilimanjaro complex, for example on the Shira Plateau. In Ethiopia, it has been recorded in the Bale Mountains, and may also grow in other highland areas of the country. It may additionally occur elsewhere in eastern Africa, and possibly in South Africa. In Dodola Forest, located on the north flank of Ethiopia's Bale Mountains, Haplocarpha rueppelii grows in several different plant communities with various other associated species. In the Hagenia abyssinica-Hypericum revolutum plant community, it grows alongside Alchemilla abyssinica, A. fischerii, Asparagus africanus, Crepis rueppellii, Cynoglossum caeruleum, Euphorbia schimperii, Hydrocotyle mannii, Kalanchoe petitiana and Satureja paradoxa in the herbaceous layer. This species grows at altitudes between 2250 m and 4650 m.
