This butterfly species occurs across a range from southern North America to central South America. Its wingspan measures between 76 mm and 98 mm. Within the tropical regions of its distribution, the butterfly is active year-round; it flies in August within the temperate regions of its range. Larvae of this species feed on plants from the Euphorbiaceae family. Adult butterflies feed on juices obtained from rotting fruit and animal faeces.
