About Halocarpus biformis (Hook.) Quinn

Halocarpus biformis (Hook.) Quinn is a dioecious evergreen conifer species that belongs to the family Podocarpaceae. This plant can grow as tall as 10 metres (33 feet), but in open areas it typically takes the form of a low, spreading bush. Its outer bark is silvery-grey, with a reddish-brown inner bark layer.

Halocarpus biformis occurs at higher elevations on the volcanic plateau of New Zealand’s North Island, and at lower elevations on the South Island and Stewart Island. It most often grows at elevations between 600–1,370 m (1,970–4,490 ft) above sea level. In Fiordland, it grows in damp locations within lowland forest.
