About Hakea pandanicarpa R.Br.
Hakea pandanicarpa R.Br. is an open, erect shrub or small tree that does not form a lignotuber, reaching 1 to 4.5 meters (3 to 10 feet) in height. It produces white-cream to greenish flowers arranged in racemes, with 4 to 14 flowers growing along the length of the raceme stalk. Its branchlets and young leaves are closely pressed against the stem, and covered in short, soft hairs. The species bears single leaves that are narrowly elliptic or egg-shaped, 3 to 12 centimeters (1 to 5 inches) long and 0.3 to 1.6 centimeters (0.1 to 0.6 inches) wide. Each leaf has a short stalk at its base, tapers toward a rounded apex, and ends in a hard, blunt point. The fruits are obliquely egg-shaped, 4.5 to 5.5 centimeters (about 2 inches) long and 3.7 to 4.5 centimeters (1 to 2 inches) wide, with small, uneven, corky pyramid-shaped protuberances across their surface. This species grows on sand plains between the Stirling Ranges and Israelite Bay, in habitats of low shrubland, heath, and occasionally mallee.
