About Hackelia floribunda (Lehm.) I.M.Johnst.
Hackelia floribunda is a lush biennial or perennial herb. It grows clusters of one to a few hairy stems that reach up to 90 centimetres (3 ft) tall. Its leaves can grow up to 20 cm (8 in) long, and only the lower leaves have petioles. Leaves get smaller toward the upper part of the stem. From June to August, blue flowers grow in cyme inflorescences at the coiled stem tips. The flower corollas are around 6 millimetres (1⁄4 in) wide, and each flower has five lobes with petal-like appendages at their bases. The fruit is a tiny, mildly prickly nutlet.
This species is native to most of the western half of North America, found in southern Canada as well as the Midwestern and Western United States. It most commonly grows in areas that stay wet through the spring, including meadows, wetlands, and riparian areas.
