About Haageocereus acranthus (Vaupel) Backeb.

Haageocereus acranthus (Vaupel) Backeb. has a columnar growth form, with sparsely branched shoots that are either arching or upright. Mature plants reach 1 to 2 meters in height, with shoot diameters up to 8 cm (3.1 in). This cactus has 12 to 14 ribs, which are divided into tubercles near the tip of the shoot. Its closely spaced areoles range in color from yellow to dark brown. It usually has a single downward-pointing central spine (occasionally several are present), which grows up to 4 cm (1.6 in) long. There are 20 to 30 yellow radial spines, each reaching up to 1 cm (0.39 in) long. The species produces greenish white flowers that are 6 to 8 cm (2.4 to 3.1 in) long, and spherical green fruits. Haageocereus acranthus is widespread in the Peruvian regions of Ica and Lima, growing at altitudes between 200 and 2700 meters.
