About Gyrocheilus patrobas (Hewitson, 1862)

Gyrocheilus is a monotypic genus (a genus containing only one species) that belongs to the nymphalid subfamily Satyrinae. Its only species is Gyrocheilus patrobas, commonly known as the red-bordered brown. This species occurs in North America, specifically in central and southern Arizona, as well as Mexico. It inhabits streamsides located in open coniferous forests of mountainous regions. The wingspan of adult Gyrocheilus patrobas ranges from 51 to 60 mm. This species has one generation each year, and adults are active in flight from mid-August through October. The larvae of Gyrocheilus patrobas feed on Muhlenbergia emersleyi.
