Gypsonoma sociana is a moth species that belongs to the family Tortricidae. Its scientific name was first described by Haworth in 1811. This species is distributed across an area ranging from Europe through Russia to China and Japan; within China, it has been recorded in Henan and Gansu. The wingspan of adult Gypsonoma sociana measures 12 to 15 mm. Adults of this species are active in flight from July to August. The larvae of Gypsonoma sociana burrow into the twigs of Populus or Salix species, which includes Salix sachalinensis and Salix raddeana, and later occupy the plant's leaf buds.
