About Gypsonoma minutana (Hübner, 1796-1799)

Gypsonoma minutana, commonly called the poplar tortricid, is a species of moth belonging to the family Tortricidae. Its known range covers Europe (extending north as far as Finland), North Africa, Turkey, Transcaucasia, the Ural region, Kazakhstan, central Asia through Siberia and eastern Russia, Asia Minor, Iran, Afghanistan, Mongolia, China, and Japan. This moth has a wingspan of 12 to 15 millimeters. In England, adult moths are active in flight during July. In Japan, the species produces two to three generations per year, with adult flight occurring in June, July, and August. In Italy, there are also two to three generations per year; adults are on wing from late May to mid-June, late July to mid-August, and mid-September to late October. The larvae of this moth feed on the leaves of three poplar species: Populus nigra, Populus alba, and Populus tremula.
