About Gynacantha bayadera Selys, 1891
Gynacantha bayadera Selys, 1891 is a slender dragonfly. Its abdomen is constricted at the third segment, and has a uniform parakeet green color that sometimes turns olivaceous. The thorax is green, while the upper surface of the abdomen ranges from pale brown to reddish brown, and the sides of abdominal segments 1 to 3 are grass green. This species can be told apart from other Gynacantha species by its unmarked frons; Gynacantha dravida, Gynacantha basiguttata, and Gynacantha subinterrupta all have a T-mark on the frons. Fraser described Gynacantha millardi, which matches G. bayadera in size, shape, and color. However, G. millardi lacks the prominent third segment constriction that is characteristic of G. bayadera. Some taxonomic literature treats G. millardi as a synonym of G. bayadera, while other sources recognize it as a valid separate species. Gynacantha bayadera is crepuscular, and flies low within shady habitats.
