About Gymnopilus picreus (Pers.) P.Karst.
This species, scientifically named Gymnopilus picreus (Pers.) P.Karst., has caps that measure 1 to 2 centimetres (0.4 to 0.8 inches) in diameter. Gymnopilus picreus grows on conifer wood, and sometimes on hardwood. It has been recorded in northern United States, Canada, and Europe, and produces fruit bodies during summer and autumn.
