About Guzmania lingulata (L.) Mez

Guzmania lingulata, commonly known as the droophead tufted airplant or scarlet star, is a flowering plant species belonging to the subfamily Tillandsioideae of the Bromeliaceae plant family. It is an evergreen, epiphytic perennial plant native to rainforest habitats found in southern Mexico, Central America, and northern and central South America. Its specific epithet lingulata comes from the Latin word meaning "tongue-shaped". Its foliage grows in a star-shaped basal rosette that ends in an inflorescence with orange and red bracts. This species is one of the most commonly cultivated types of bromeliad, and its cultivars produce flowers in shades of maroon, red, orange, yellow, or pink.
