About Gutierrezia texana (DC.) Torr. & A.Gray

Gutierrezia texana (DC.) Torr. & A.Gray is a North American flowering plant species in the Asteraceae family, commonly called Texas snakeweed. It is native to the south-central United States, including New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, southwestern Arkansas, and northwestern Louisiana, and to northern Mexico, extending south as far as Guanajuato and Hidalgo. This species is an annual hairless herb that can grow up to 100 cm (39 inches) tall. It produces numerous flower heads arranged in loose clusters. Each flower head typically holds 5 to 36 ray flowers (though some heads have no ray flowers) plus 7 to 48 disc flowers. Two varieties are recognized for this species: Gutierrezia texana var. glutinosa (S.Schauer) M.A.Lane and Gutierrezia texana var. texana.
