About Griposia aprilina (Linnaeus, 1758)
Technical description and variation: The forewing of Griposia aprilina is whitish green, with velvety black lines and markings. The median shade is particularly thick, and the upper stigmata are large. All black markings are made more prominent by white surrounding them. The hindwing is blackish grey; its cellspot, outer line, and submarginal shade are darker than the rest of the wing. A white terminal space sits before the black marginal line. The aberration bouveti Lucas, found in France, has greener head, thorax, and forewings, and the median area of its forewing lacks black markings. Distribution: This species ranges from Sardinia and southeastern Russia, from the foothills of the Ural Mountains to the Black Sea. Its distribution extends from the southernmost part of Norway and Saint Petersburg through northern and central Europe to southern France and northern Italy, and it is also present in Castile. It additionally occurs in western and central Anatolia, the Caucasus, and Asia Minor, with recent evidence confirming its presence in the Alborz mountain range.
