About Grewia tiliifolia Vahl

Grewia tiliifolia, which has the synonym Grewia damine, is a species of flowering plant belonging to Malvaceae sensu lato. It is a tree that grows to 8 metres (26 feet) tall. This species grows in monsoon forest and intermediate forest gaps and fringes. It occurs in Sri Lanka, where it is called "daminiya" in Sinhala and "chadachchi" in Tamil. It can also be found in Pakistan (Sind and Punjab), India (Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Peninsula), Nepal, and Southeast Asia. Grewia tiliifolia is used in traditional medicine: its bark and roots are used to treat fractures, diarrhoea, and skin diseases. Its wood is used to make tool handles, and its fruit is edible.
