About Gravitarmata margarotana (Heinemann, 1863)
Gravitarmata margarotana, commonly known as the pine cone tortrix or pine twig moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Tortricidae. Its known distribution ranges from England, Austria, and Poland in Europe, eastward through the Baltic region to Russia. It is also found in multiple provinces of China (Shanxi, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Gansu), as well as in Korea and Japan. This moth has a wingspan of 14 to 18 millimeters. In Europe, adult moths are active between April and May, and the species produces one new generation per year. The larvae feed on Pinus and Abies species, and may also feed on Picea species, developing inside the twigs and cones of their host food plants.
