About Graphiphora augur (Fabricius, 1775)

Graphiphora augur (Fabricius, 1775) has a wingspan of 35 to 42 mm. Its forewings are uniform brownish grey with a reddish tinge. The forewing stigmata are the same color as the surrounding wing tissue and outlined in black; the claviform stigma is narrow. The orbicular stigma is variable in shape: it can be round, flattened, or sometimes elongated to touch the inner line. The outer edge of the reniform stigma is swollen in the middle, and is sometimes followed by a dark shade. The hindwing is slightly paler than the forewing. Several named forms vary from the standard description: form hippophaes (Geyer) is a grey form that lacks the reddish tinge, while helvetina Knaggs is a pale, blurred form with obscure markings and a pink fringe on the hindwing.
