About Grammodes geometrica (Fabricius, 1775)
This species, Grammodes geometrica, has a wingspan ranging from 26 to 45 mm. Its body is greyish brown. On the forewings, a large black patch covers almost the entire wing, leaving only the basal, costal, and outer areas uncovered. The outer edge of this black patch is waved, and it is joined by an oblique streak extending from the apex. The antemedial and postmedial lines curve inwards below the costa, with whitish bands located outside these lines on the black patch. The outer section of the postmedial band is pale fulvous in color. The hindwings are fuscous, with a pale medial band. The cilia have white coloration at the apex and anal angle. The larva is an elongated semi-looper, with no tubercles. Its head is pale ochreous with black spots, and the larval body has longitudinal red lines along the dorsal and dorso-lateral regions. Larvae of Grammodes geometrica feed on species from the genera Phyllanthus, Cistus, Diospyros, Ricinus, Oryza, Polygonum, Ziziphus, and Tamarix, as well as various grasses.
