Gompholobium preissii Meisn. is an erect shrub that usually grows to a height of 10 to 40 cm, which is 3.9 to 15.7 inches. Its leaves are pinnate, measuring 6 to 17 mm, or 0.24 to 0.67 inches, in length, and carry 5 to 15 leaflets. The flowers are most often yellow or orange-red marked with brown, pink or purple. These flowers grow on pedicels 4.0 to 4.5 mm (0.16 to 0.18 inches) long, with attached bracteoles 3.5 to 5.0 mm (0.14 to 0.20 inches) long. The sepals are 10 to 11 mm (0.39 to 0.43 inches) long. The standard petal is 10.0 to 10.2 mm (0.39 to 0.40 inches) long, the wings are 8.7 to 10 mm (0.34 to 0.39 inches) long, and the keel is 7.6 to 8.2 mm (0.30 to 0.32 inches) long. Flowering takes place from August to December, and the fruit is a pod around 8 mm (0.31 inches) long. This Gompholobium species grows on lateritic soils and is widespread across the south-western region of Western Australia.
