About Gomphidius subroseus Kauffman
The cap of Gomphidius subroseus Kauffman is pinkish tan, and reaches 3โ7 centimetres (1+1โ4โ2+3โ4 inches) wide. Its stem measures 3โ7 cm long and approximately 1โ2 cm wide. A ring may be left on the stem by the veil. The gills are deeply decurrent, and the spore print is dark gray to black. This fungus is distributed across Europe and North America. Fruiting occurs from July to September in the Mountain states of the US, and from September to November on the West Coast of North America. It was previously believed to form mycorrhizae with Pinus sylvestris. However, a 2002 study by Olson et al. found it is more likely parasitic on Suillus bovinus, a species that is itself apparently mycorrhizal with P. sylvestris.
