About Gnophaela latipennis Boisduval, 1852
Gnophaela latipennis, commonly known as the wild forget-me-not moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. This species was first described by Jean Baptiste Boisduval in 1852. It is distributed in the US states of Oregon and California. Its natural habitats include open mixed hardwood-conifer forests, oak woodlands, open riparian areas adjacent to creeks, open ponderosa pine forests, and mountain meadows. The forewings of this moth reach a length of 26 millimeters, or 1.0 inches. Adult moths are active and can be observed in flight from late May through early August. The larvae of this species feed on plants in the genera Cynoglossum, including Cynoglossum grande and Cynoglossum occidentale, along with Hackelia californica, and species from the genera Mertensia and Myosotis.
