About Glycyrrhiza acanthocarpa (Lindl.) J.M.Black
Glycyrrhiza acanthocarpa, commonly known as native liquorice and southern liquorice, is a subshrub belonging to the pea plant family Fabaceae. This species is native to Australia. It reaches a height between 0.1 and 1 metre. Narrow purple flowers bloom between September and May across the species' native range. The species was formally described in 1838 by botanist John Lindley in the publication Three Expeditions into the interior of Eastern Australia. It was first collected and recorded by explorer Thomas Livingstone Mitchell in 1836 near the Lachlan River in New South Wales. Lindley originally named the species Indigofera acanthocarpa. The species was later moved to the genus Glycyrrhiza.
