About Glycyphana horsfieldi (Hope, 1831)
This species is Glycyphana horsfieldi (Hope, 1831). Adult beetles of this species average about 2.7 cm in length. Individuals have been observed in guava plantations. The grubs typically feed on the rotten wood of Bombax insigne, Chloroxylon swietenia, and Samanea saman. There is slight morphological variation between beetles from the Indian subregion and populations from Sri Lanka. The Himalayan regional form is smaller and narrower, with small golden triangular elytral patches. In contrast, the Sri Lankan form is usually larger and broader, with large golden elytral patches. The third instar of Glycyphana horsfieldi has a cylindrical, dull whitish body. It averages 13 mm in total length, and its head capsule is 3 mm wide. Its spiracles are distinct, it has a C-shaped yellowish brown cranium, and its antenna has four antennomeres.
