About Glycine tomentella Hayata

Glycine tomentella Hayata, commonly known as woolly glycine or rusty glycine, is a species of soybean. It occurs in Australia, New Guinea, New Caledonia, the Philippines, Taiwan, and southeast coastal China. Within Australia, it can be found in New South Wales, Queensland, the Northern Territory, and Western Australia. This species forms a complex of different polyploid forms. Different populations of Glycine tomentella have been found with the following chromosome counts: 2n=38, 2n=40, 2n=78, and 2n=80. All four polyploid forms occur in Australia. The 40-chromosome and 78-chromosome forms are also found in New Guinea, while the 80-chromosome form occurs across the full range of the species.
