Glyceria maxima (Hartm.) Holmb. has the synonyms Glyceria aquatica (L.) Wahlenb., Glyceria spectabilis Mert. & W.D.J. Koch, Molinia maxima Hartm., and Poa aquatica L. This species of rhizomatous perennial grass in the mannagrass genus is commonly known by multiple common names: great manna grass, reed mannagrass, reed sweet-grass, and greater sweet-grass. It is native to Europe and Western Siberia, and grows in wet areas including riverbanks and ponds. It is highly competitive and invasive, and is often classified as a noxious weed in regions outside of its native range.
