Glyceria borealis (Nash) Batch. is a species of the genus Glyceria, with common names including northern mannagrass, boreal mannagrass, and small floating mannagrass. It is native to most of the northern half of North America and has a widespread distribution across this region. This semiaquatic plant grows in wet areas within mountain forests, and often grows directly in water. It produces a tall, very thin stem that often exceeds one meter in height when held erect. The stem may bend, lie flat on the ground, or float in the water of ponds and streams. Its leaves have ligules that can grow up to one centimeter long. The plant produces a narrow, long inflorescence that holds cylindrical spikelets between one and two centimeters long. Each spikelet is made up of 6 to 11 florets that have membranous margins.
