About Globia sparganii Esper
Globia sparganii Esper has a wingspan ranging from 32 to 40 mm. Its forewings are pale yellowish ochreous, flushed with rufous, particularly in males; the veins are paler, and sprinkled with dark fuscous, most noticeably the median vein. The forewing lines are formed by series of black spots; only the outer line is distinct and complete. Two or more blackish dots mark the lower end of the reniform stigma, and a series of black terminal dots runs along the edge of the forewing. The hindwings are pale dull yellowish, and are more or less suffused with fuscous, except towards the inner and outer margins.
This species varies widely in both overall color and the clarity of its markings. The aberration ab. obsoleta Tutt is an ochreous form dusted with grey, lacking any reddish or yellowish admixture. The aberration ab. rufescens Tutt has forewings that are more or less strongly reddish, and hindwings that are suffused with fuscous all the way to the outer line. The aberration ab. bipunctata Tutt has a black dash above the median vein, which marks the base of an otherwise unmarked orbicular stigma; the black crescent with a pale center at the end of the cell represents the reniform stigma in this form, which occurs regardless of overall body color.
