About Glehnia littoralis (A.Gray) F.Schmidt ex Miq.

Glehnia littoralis is a plant with a long taproot that grows a basal cluster of leaves. Each leaf is composed of multiple rounded, lobular segments. The species reaches a maximum height of over 0.5 meters (1 and a half feet), while the North American subspecies has only been reported to reach 6.5 centimeters (2 and a half inches). Its erect stem is topped with an umbel of white, carrot-like flowers. Glehnia littoralis is native to eastern Asia, specifically eastern China, Japan, and far-eastern Russia, as well as western North America, ranging from Alaska to northern California. It grows on sandy beaches and dunes. This plant is most well-known as a Chinese herbal remedy for cough.
